Cookies are small files websites leave on your phone, so they can remember your site preferences or track your browsing activity. Sometimes, a website will show content from a third-party website (for example, “Like” buttons from Facebook, ads or embedded videos) and those other websites might leave a cookie too.

Total cookie protection (blocking cross-site cookies) is enabled by default in Firefox Focus.

To update your cookie settings:

  1. Tap the menu button next to the address bar:

    focusAddressbar
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to Privacy & Security.
  4. Tap Block cookies.
  5. Choose the type of cookies you want to block.

Note

Blocking all cookies: This prevents trackers, but it will also keep websites from remembering anything you’ve told it (for example, you will be asked to click the “Submit” button over and over again).

Blocking third-party cookies: This blocks third-party trackers, but some websites rely on features that load from other domains. Parts of the page (for example, embedded videos or commenting tools) might not work properly.

Blocking third-party tracking cookies: This blocks third-party tracking cookies from known tracking domains, which avoids unexpected breakage from the more aggressive settings while still preventing the user from being followed across multiple websites.

Blocking cross-site-cookies: This enables total cookie protection, which isolates cookies to the site where they were created. This setting covers not just cookies, but a variety of browser technologies that previously were able to be used for cross-site tracking.
