Thunderbird hangs while waiting for sync

I've setup Thunderbird to sync contacts, events and tasks with my Nextcloud instance.

Whenever I save one of those, Thunderbird becomes sluggish or even freezes for some time.

It would be great if the communication with Nextcloud could be done asynchronous.
