Since I update the latest Firefox download, I do see a secure lock symbol for webpages that have always been secure. Why is this? How can I be sure my info is not exposed to everyone?

Padlock is no longer part of Firefox. Familiarize yourself with the Site Identity Button at the left end of the Location Bar:

You can install this add-on if you wish: *https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/padlock-icon/
