Nothing happens when I click on certain web links on most web pages I go to. Some links work and others do nothing. I can not open a new window either

Using Windows Vista. When placing pointer over known link, pointer does not change or indicate a workable link. No link destination in the bottom left of my screen either, looks like java script instead of a weblink. I find this problem on all web sites that I go to, some links just don't work. This is very frustrating as I have to go to another web browser (IE) to view the link. I have not been able to open a new window (two windows open) since updating with Firefox 11. Thinking about the last update, I had two windows open until Flash updated.

Some thoughts:

(1) Since you mentioned Flash, I'll mention that there are some compatibility issues between the latest Flash player and some Firefox add-ons or settings. Could you see whether anything in this article helps: Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox.

(2) When this problem occurs, does it make any difference whether the page is "zoomed"? This aticle lists the keyboard combinations and mouse options for zooming and resetting the zoom level: Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages.

(3) Do you have any add-ons that block content or change page layout? These may include ad blockers, Flash blockers, and security filters. You can review your add-ons and disable any that are nonessential here:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons

Check both the Extensions category and the Plugins category.

(4) Do you want to try the new Reset feature? This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins will still be active, but could be disabled manually if you like.

More information in this article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager.

Any progress so far?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
