The problem seems to be when I go to a search engine. Firefox uses Google as their default. When I type in say “bbc” it goes to the search engine and of course shows me all the websites associated with “bbc”. It’s when I try to open that website that the warning sign from Bullguard comes up blocking that site. It doesn’t matter what website I try to open the same sign from Bullguard comes up. I thought I would try a different search engine which I can do from the right hand corner of Firefox. I chose Yahoo but then the computer “seizes up” completely and I have to shut down the computer.

I have found by opening IE and using their search engine I can open up say the bbc, copy the address bar, place in in the Firefox address bar and save it as a Bookmark. I can then open the bookmarked “bbc” every time in Firefox. It’s a long way round to get a website onto the Firefox but it seems to work!!

I have checked for a virus and run a malware programme. I have reinstalled Bullguard and Firefox. Any ideas please?

Does Bullguard say why the site is blocked? Have you checked its options? Has Bullguard been checked for updates?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the <Alt Key> to bring up the tool bar. Then Tools > Options > Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

Now disable Bullguard, and see if the problem is still there.

===============================

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
