Why doesn't the bottom bar show up for firefox on windows 7 unless I exit Firefox?

Ever since I updated firefox the bottom bar with my other programs running doesn't show up unless I minimize Firefox. This is very inconvenient and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I like the fact that the top url bar and tabs disappears unless you place your mouse over the top, so maybe you could do the same thing for the bottom bar with the programs? Thanks, Ealias Fekadu

It sounds like you are using Firefox's full screen view (you can use the F11 key to switch between full screen and regular views).

I don't know whether there are any add-ons to show the Windows Taskbar in front of Firefox when you mouse to the bottom, but I'm pretty sure there is no built-in setting for that.

I will just note that if Firefox doesn't seem to size windows logically, it can indicate that one of Firefox's settings files has become corrupted. You can rename the file and have Firefox re-create it. You may need to turn your preferred bars (menu bar, toolbars) on/off after doing this.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old

Start Firefox back up again. Hopefully windows size normally again.
