This just started happening a few days ago. Every time I open up a new tab, it causes this loud airplane sound (like one flying overhead, it lasts several seconds) and I can't figure out why it's happening or how to stop it. Help!

What is the current setting of the new tab page? about:config page: browser.newtab.url

See:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
