AOL toolbar aol-2.2 has taken over my update to firefox 33.0.2

Windows 7. I cannot find a way to get rid of the AOL toolbar. It does not appear in Add Ons or as a toolbar or in my windows program list or anywhere else. Every time i open an empty new tab it opens in AOL. I cannot find how I got to a firefox version called "33.0.2 Mozilla Firefox with AOL Toolbar aol -2.2" or how to get rid of this version or its bad behavior.

A fix is appreciated AND a warning how this can be stopped in the future

THanks...you fixed the problem. I found no information directing me to this add on...and still do not know how AOL did this to firefox. I tried deleting firefox and then installed 33.02 from firefox (that eliminated the "aol" version reference) however, until you sent me to the add on I was getting the redirection to AOL in tabs.

Wish there had been direct link to answer this problem.
