Everytime Firefox starts, it opens https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/33.1/whatsnew/?oldversion=22.0 in a tab, and my specified homepage in another tab. How do I make Firefox stop opening the https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/33.1/whatsnew/?oldversion=22.0 tab? I do not have a user.js file, and https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/33.1/whatsnew/?oldversion=22.0 does not appear in pres.js. So where is is coming from and how to I stop it?

does the same thing also happen when you first close all open firefox instances, then press windows-key+R and open "firefox.exe"?

more options

Hi philipp

No, it does not. Launching firefox.exe from the run prompt only opens the homepage. I usually launch it from a pinned shortcut on the task bar. I have also noticed if I have a FF window open, and I use the shortcut again, only the homepage opens in the new window.

ok, then the shortcut may be "compromised" - right-click it, go to properties and make sure that there is no url appended at the end of the "target" field after the path to firefox.exe...

The target field did not contain a url. I made a new shortcut and it still gives me the same behavior. screen shot attached.
