Under Options > Downloads, where it gives you two options, either to automatically download into a particular directory or to ask where to save the item, I have the first selected. And yet every time I download something, it always still asks me where to save the file.

By ~1wk do you mean "approximately one week"?

Yup. Not always easy to type ≈ so a lot of people use the less accurate, but relatively synonymous symbol ~ instead.

(Technically in maths ≈ means "approximately equal to" but ~ means "slightly approximately equal to". Not quite the same thing, but for ease of use on the internet, the tilde has largely superseded the double tilde in meaning the former.)

Users; Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I'm not sure. As I said, I'll have to check this weekend when I get around to reinstalling Windows on my comp.
