new version comes up with box that freezes firefox had to uninstall

I open firefox and the home page comes up. A small box comes up that has a box to check, but no way to get rid of it. I can't exit or do anything. Have to go to task manager to get out. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem. Had to uninstall. Your program has a bug or virius in it.

If you decide you want to use Firefox again:

Make sure to use the official download site. You can save a full installer from this page (scroll down to your preferred language): https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Also, could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

When Firefox is not running, you can start in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key when double-clicking the Firefox icon/shortcut.

A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

This may or may not resolve the home page issue, but should narrow down the possible issues.

Meanwhile, if you suspect an infection, we have a list of free scanning and cleaning tools in our support article here: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
