I updated to 38 and now my scroll arrows are missing. How do I get them back?

I installed Linux Mint 17.1 recently. It came with Firefox 33. When using it for the first time, I got a message saying Firefox was out of date. I updated to Firefox 38. Now the arrows on the ends of the scroll bar are missing. I use a small laptop when I travel. I don't use a mouse, as the mouse is very inconvenient in the passenger seat of the car. I need the scroll arrows back. It is the easiest way to scroll around the tiny laptop screen with the touchpad.

Please explain in English, not computerese (or even worse linux-ese), how to restore the scroll bar line-at-a-time arrow buttons that used to be on the top and bottom of the scroll bar. The help forums either jabber about opening files I don't know how to find and editing code that I don't have permissions to edit, or they talk about changing settings in older versions of Firefox that no longer have the menu options available. I step by step instructions that work.

So you only see the scroll bar thumb and not the scroll buttons?

Can you drag the thumb all the way up and down or does it stop on possibly invisible scroll buttons?

Can you try a different Linux theme and possibly a different icon pack?

The scroll bar is there, only the arrow buttons are missing. I can drag the thumb all the way up and down, so they are not invisible. I tried several of the themes that came with Linux Mint 17.1, but so far they all have missing arrow buttons. The left and right arrows on the horizontal scroll bar are missing too.

Is there another theme I can use that bring back the scroll arrows?

Is there a setting in about:config that I need to change?
