why am i still receiving mail from an account i deleated?

initially I created 2 email accounts in thunderbird, with messages from the 2nd account (minidad2@gmail.com) also being shown in the main account (pcurran@eastlink.ca). eventually I deleated the 2nd account (minidad2@gmail.com). although this 2nd account has been deleated, I am still receiving email addressed to this deleated account and is being received in the mail account (pcurran@eastlink.ca). WHY??

I suspect you had set forwarding at gmail, or collection at eastlink.ca. So messages sent to minidad2 are forwarded and presented in the eastlink account.

Have you gone to the google mail website and deleted the minidad2 account there?
