Password is saved for a website (I know, because it opens) but I can't find it in saved passwords in browser options.
Hi Knowledgeable folks @ Firefox, Could you tell me how it is possible that I have a password saved for my Hotmail account, but it doesn't appear in the list of saved passwords? I know it is saved because when I click on the Outlook link it opens up Hotmail, and I can access my emails. How do I recover my password without going to Hotmail and resetting? THANK YOU!

As long as you can get into hotmail now, you stand a good chance of sorting out the password.
I think Hotmail may use a site name something like "loginlive".
Also it may be that you did not save the password on Firefox. Hotmail itself has an option for the login to persist and be remembered, that will use cookies.
Hotmail could have password reset options, but that may depend on you having taken advance actions to setup an alternative email address or other contact method and or security questions. That is something you should be able to do right now if you re still logged in or able to login.

Type about:preferences#security<enter> in the address bar.
Under Passwords, select Remember. To check the passwords you have listed, press Saved Passwords.

Thanks so much, I was afraid to reset my password, but I ended up doing it anyway. I will be traveling and need to have my password with me, so I had to do that. I didn't know about the fact that Hotmail can remember without the password being saved to my browser. Anyway I saved it to Firefox this time.

Thanks, FredMcD, This is an interesting and faster alternative to going to options etc. Now I hope I remember it ;)
It is likely that you have stored a 'remember me' cookie on your computer if the website automatically recognizes you. A lot of websites have a check box for such a feature.
A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.
You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:
- Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions
In case you clear history:
- Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
- Clearing Cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
