in past s/w versions I could always find my bookmark links and go to that link from my Bookmark BUTTON. Now I can only link to a bookmarked web page thru the bookmark SIDEBAR. I don't want to use the bookmark sidebar because it takes up screen space. How do go back to the old way of using the bookmark BUTTON.

The sidebar is just an alternative method of looking at bookmarks.

Close the sidebar using the cross in its top right corner.

Your bookmarks icon is normally on your toolbar. Are you able to see that ? Note there is an option to set customise to default if that helps.
