Your new "signed apps" will not allow use of unsigned after version 41. This will not allow Epson's "E-Web Print" app at present, and description says you will disable rather than allow me to assume risk. I love Firefox, but will not trash my new Epson printer - so will be forced to use another browser. Will you ALLOW users to assume risk for non-signed apps for a longer period, so such exclusions do not occur for those willing to assume risk?

The simplest solution would be for Epson to submit that extension to Mozilla for signing. Mozilla does provide for self-hosted extensions to be signed, with no obligation to host it at AMO.

But of course, they wouldn't do that is they don't support that application any longer. Selected FAQ in Epson support

Exactly what does that extension control? What wouldn't work if the user couldn't use that extension? As far as printing email - Firefox doesn't even "do email". And printing from a web mail portal would happen like it does from a webpage.

That can be done in Print Preview when using an extension like this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/print-edit/

Sorry - many of us long time Firefox users have tried to convince the developers to provide that type of override on a permanent basis, but the final decision was to not do that for Release and Beta versions. The Aurora / WebDeveloper and Nightly versions will have that feature disabled by default.

BTW, that feature won't 'trash' your printer. The extension that Epson provides just won't be allowed to be installed, and if it is already installed it will be disabled.

Overall, I'm fairly sure that the number of "unbranded" versions / custom builds of Firefox will increase as a result of this new feature. http://www.ghacks.net/2009/05/09/firefox-custom-builds/ I have used pcxFirefox, Light Firefox and Palemoon in the last couple of years to see what they were like.

Actually edmeister, while not an acceptable solution - you have confirmed my worst fears, and for that knowledge I do thank you. No, the printer will not actually be trashed in the limited sense it still will work for offline printing such as local Office and saved Acrobat (.pdf) documents, but without this app it will not print from my email (a frequent need) nor from any other online page (airline boarding passes!) and so in fact I myself must choose "which to trash" - my new Epson printer, or my long time usage of and preference for Firefox! So I'm already searching for a replacement browser unfortunately - anyone familiar with Chrome or have a better recommendation? Will also check out the custom builds versions you reference, but those sound much-less-supported which seems to me to equal more susceptible to serious damage from hacker/culprits? Thanks for quick information edmeister, though sure hope Firefox developers re-think this issue.... Ed4mozilla

Great! So my problem stems from Epson no longer supporting that function of my new (1 year) printer!?! I'd still like the freedom to override and take my own risk on selected unsigned apps in newer Firefox upgrades, but the Mozilla "Print Edit" add-on you referenced can replace both my current print-preview add on and the soon-to-be-lost Epson Web Print capability. I'll need to re-install my printer to remove the Epson non-supported app, but with this Mozilla Print Edit 15.1, I will then end up with the clean print capability I want. THANKS edmeister!

I appreciate FireFox telling me what is a risk but please, allow me to make the final decision about enable or disable.

How about this: Tell me all of the awful things that Epson eWeb Print can do to me, then let me decide. Kinda like the security pop up we get when browsing to a site with a questionable certificate. We have the option to continue or abort.

I love eWeb Print. Let me enable it please?
