Why is my new Gmail password is not accepted by Thunderbird

I had to change my Gmail password due to a hacker attack. It was the ransom virus. I entered a new password for Gmail, via Firefox, which was accepted and I can operate my Gmail account without problems, except that I prefer the user friendliness of Thunderbird. On trying T'bird again ( I un-installed and re-installed T'bird) it refused to accept my new Gmail PW, or indeed any other PW that I have used recently on Gmail or Thunderbird. I am frankly very close to uninstalling T'Bird permanently. Any ideas?

When you re-installed Thunderbird, a new profile was created. Your old passwords, mail and other settings are in your OLD profile, You need to have Thunderbird 'point' to the old profile.
