Firefox is referring to whether there is a regular connection to the website -- which is not encrypted and so anyone can read the back and forth -- or an encrypted connection to the website -- which you get when the site uses an HTTPS address.

Not every site is designed for secure access but if you want to try it, you can edit the address from http:// to https:// -- in order to make it easier to edit, you can "unhide" the http:// by changing a hidden setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste urlb (that's URLB) and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.trimURLs preference to switch it from true to false, and now http:// will be present and easier to edit

(If you change your mind, just double-click it again to switch it back)

Does that help?
