Thunderbird has been crashing on startup with the message 'Thunderbird has stopped working'. I am not able to get in to the program at all.

This computer runs Windows 7 Professional 32 bit Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz

Since this began I have tried the following: - Uninstalling / Reinstalling Thunderbird(tried beta as well as 38.2.0) - Running Windows in safe mode - Running Thunderbird in safe mode - Running Thunderbird as admin - Deleting the Windows Temp folder - Uninstalling the most recent Windows updates

I logged in to a different account and was able to open Thunderbird successfully. Below is the contents of the crashreporter.ini file.

Yes. There were 43 few results when I searched "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Crash Reports\submitted\" in the start menu. Here are the most recent 5.

Crash ID: bp-0c86b859-ea54-4e99-9220-5e6732150924 Crash ID: bp-0ff03b1f-02af-452a-bf51-46ef42150924 Crash ID: bp-2a401571-ea1d-43ea-9e6a-a701a2150925 Crash ID: bp-2b4677b8-1d2f-4b76-a260-f879d2150924 Crash ID: bp-2f9488a2-f49c-4b17-bc36-4a2192150924

Here are a few older crash reports from when the problem began.

Crash ID: bp-675b5875-5123-49f1-999a-3ae122150923 Crash ID: bp-1385f2f1-aed3-4429-9944-4d80c2150923 Crash ID: bp-431b32a5-0290-42c0-8b6c-f5b4f2150923 Crash ID: bp-86ccf905-1beb-4531-8f86-f8b9b2150924

We deleted my profile and reinstalled Thunderbird. The program opened no problem, then we recovered my profile using MozBackup and it no longer opens with the same error message appearing.

ok, what we are seeing here is an out of memory situation. Given it is occurring as soon as Thunderbird starts, I think corruption is more likely that the common Firefox causes discussed in Bug 1072151

So I think we should start by trying safe mode. Hold the shift key while starting Thunderbird and continue in safe mode when prompted. If it does not crash then is is most likely an add-on that is the problem.

I don't think that will fix it though, unless the lightning calendar cache is the issue so second delete all the cached information that we can.

Open your profile folder Type %APPDATA%\Thunderbird\profiles from the start menu and then navigate to the actual profile folder below.

Delete or move from the folder the following files.

Panacea.dat Foldertree.json Localstore.rdf xulstore.json Foldertree.json

Restart Thunderbird Session.json (removing this one resets the user interface to defaults.)
