After Thunderbird once again ate the message content of most of my inbox (leaving the complete header), I tried to repair the inbox and ended up with five messages instead of about 100. At least the five had the content and a new email has arrived with content. I have used Mozilla for years, but I am at my wits end on this. I cannot afford to keep losing my emails from the inbox.

Is it always email before a certain date that go missing? If so check your anti virus activity logs for them detecting and deleting something on or then day after that date. Nortons product in particular deletes the entire mail folders content if you click Automatic repair. This action deletes the mail but not the index used to display the mail lists.

Corruption of the file can also cause mos of mail, but is very uncommon, without help from a third party program.

The only correlation I can get is that it seems to happen every time Thunderbird is all but insisting that it compact folders.
