firefox 42, updated.

Did the refresh.

After it its practically unusable.

Yahoo is homepage, search, and other webpages suddenly no longer loading (fastmail.fm), or whitepage http://www.shawl-anderson.org/ or garbled garbage (https://roundcube.intermedia.net/initSession.php?)

I fixed Yahoo's homepage hack though the suggested newtab addon, but refresh removed this.

Upon every restarting of firefox consistently added are these lines to prefs.js: (probably amongst others)

user_pref("browser.search.defaultenginename", " Yahoo!"); user_pref("browser.search.defaultenginename.US", " Yahoo!"); user_pref("browser.search.isUS", true); user_pref("browser.search.region", "US"); user_pref("browser.search.selectedEngine", " Yahoo!"); user_pref("browser.search.suggest.enabled", false); user_pref("browser.search.update", false);

Over time, Firefox deteriorated beyond usefulness.

I tried internet explorer. yahoo everything also in internet explorer.

SO, i erased firefox entirely, including the profile. (through profile manager)

Ran spybot and malwarebytes anti malware programs.

Both found about 200 malwares. Mostly browser stuff, hidden in impossible places. Then started IE. which looked yahoo free. Then downloaded firefox from the official mozilla site. Installed and started. The yahoo homepage and search were back. In both IE and firefox.

Manually turned yahoo off in newtab as well as search.

SO far it holds.

So, it seems some of the malware came together with the firefox download...

Maybe worth looking into this.
