While setting up my Thunderbird account on a new laptop, I deleted all my e-mails, thinking they would still be on my desktop, because when I delete mail from my smart phone, they are still on my desktop.

Yeah, I know ..... DUH!!!

Is there any way to retrieve these messages (without being a computer genius), and is there a time limit in which to do so?

Please help!!

Is your question about recovering messages after emptying the Trash folder? Then you'd need to restore them from a recent backup.

If your question is about undeleting messages, e.g. like recovering from Trash, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Undelete_a_message
