Why does Thunderbird hold onto my emails after I hit send, and put them in a queue for many hours?

Since the latest updates of Thunderbird for Mac, when I hit Send (not Send later), the email does not send but goes into a queu and often will not send at all unless I quit and restart the app. What's the issue? I have changed none of my settings and it never used to do this.

thanks!

click the blue monitors in the bottom left corner of the screen to place Thunderbird in online mode so mail sends immediately and mail comes in on schedule.

Thanks for the reply Matt. Unfortunately that's not the issue. It's online and emails are coming in just fine. Nothing goes out, it just sits in a queue. If I quit and restart the emails send. And while TBird has an Activity Manager function, that never shows emails in a qeueu, the way, say Apple Mail does. So no way to help the process along without quitting and restarting.

Went back to Apple mail. Not a server issue as all email immediately sends there. Bummer, prefer Thunderbird but it ain't working.
