i'm trying to disable the feature where you press ctrl + F or function and F but i'm having a hard time finding where to do this.

Please try this solution to the problem:
In FF-menu: Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Uncheck "Begin finding.."
I hope this will solve your problem.

That will not do what is wanted. The control (function) F is built in the browser.

There was an add-on called Customizable Shortcuts. But I can't find it.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

That does not do it and this is Firefox on Linux and not Windows so it is Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General
