can't update 44.0.2 by default or manually - using osx 10.6.8?

more options

Firefox is not updating automatically - for me. I have tried updating 44.0.2 using the procedures advised in the "about Firefox" window and "update Firefox to the latest version". No success. I have had this problem with previous updates and had to "install" the latest version as a work around. I'm running OSX 10.6.8 with no other FF problems. FF is set as the default browser with automatic update. How soon after the release of a new version should automatic update occur? Am I being too impatient?

Some protection programs do not like the stub updaters.
