Using OSX 10.6.8. Installed latest security update, and now have FireFox 46.0.1 running Today got a message saying that updates for OSX 10.6 thru 10.8 will cease on Aug 16, 2016 BUT that: "Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) 45 will continue to support OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 until mid-2017, but this ESR release will be the last that supports them." https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2016/04/29/update-on-firefox-support-for-os-x/

So does this mean that I should go back to running ver 45.something?

Also this: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ indicates that ESR is for organizations, not individuals.

What do I need to do to receive the ESR updates so I can keep getting Firefox updates for OSX 10.6.8 as long as they are being produced? I'm guessing that the ESR "cycle 45" updates will appear on this page when they exist: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

Does subscribing to the : "Mozilla’s Enterprise Working Group (EWG) mailing list" announce when they are available? But I don't want to have to find it within a daily tech talk email.

Can I get on some sort of list that will send me an update link in the usual manner, for the ESR update?

And hopefully the "regular" Firefox updates that don't work with OSX 10.6 will not install themselves !!! That would really make a mess if someone else was using the computer and decided to install it when the popup message appeared.

Support for Mac OSX 10.6. 10.7, 10.8 is being dropped as of Firefox 49.0 Release (Sept 13) as the minimum support then will be Mac OSX 10.9.

You can either keep using Firefox Releases up till Firefox 48 is made EOL as of Firefox 49.0 Release and then switch to Fx 45 ESR to stay secure or you can switch to Firefox 45 ESR branch starting now if you like.

The ESR is meant for Enterprise users in mind yes however regular users can use it, just that it gets allowed stability and not necessarily every security update that goes in the Release branch.

Once Firefox 49.0 is Released the Mac OSX 10.6. 10.7, 10.8 users going to www.mozilla.org or www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ will likely be directed to the Firefox 45 ESR as the current version then will be 45.4.0 esr in line with Fx 49.0 Release.

You do not need to subscribe to any mailing lists or such to be aware of updates as they are pretty much on same schedule as Release.

The updates will be as this barring any chemspill updates up till 45.8.0 ESR unless they extend it. The last number goes up by 1 if there is a chemspill update to fix stability or security concerns that could not wait until the next major Release.

46.0 = 46.1.0 esr 46.0.1 = 45.1.1 esr 47.0 = 45.2.0 esr 48.0 = 45.3.0 esr 49.0 = 45.4.0 esr 50.0 = 45.5.0 esr 51.0 = 45.6.0 esr 52.0 = 45.7.0 esr 53.0 = 45.8.0 esr

The message saying you need OSX 10.9 or newer was a accident as it was meant for the Nightly channel users where 49.0a1 is on currently.

Release, Beta, Aurora channel users should not get this message now but will perhaps be enabled on each channel the 49.0 version is on as it moves through the channels to Release.
