why does the status bar not provide feedback when a (local) folder is being compacted?

when compacting local folders, the status bar does not provide any feedback; I'd like to see (ideally) both before and after sizes together with folder name. how do you get this information?

You do not get this information.

The best you will get is what appears in the activity manager. (alt + T) > activity manager

Hmm, there might not be a lot of information, but it is reported in the status bar

Perhaps try safe mode and see if you have a theme or add-on that prevents the notification from appearing.

you are correct, I managed to actually see it for the 0,5 second it displayed -- frankly, it's rubbish. again, thank you for your time.
