I am using Thunderbird 45.3.0 on a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit machine. When I send an email I always bcc myself so when I receive the bcc I know that the message was actually sent and I also have a copy of it if I want to save it a while or print it.

I have noticed since August 25, 2016 that the messages that I have sent do not appear in my Sent folder. Tonight I discovered that when I send a message it does indeed appear in the Sent folder and I also receive a bcc copy of the message in my inbox. When I delete the bcc message from my inbox it also deletes the message from the Sent folder. As I mentioned earlier it appears that this started happening after August 25th as there are messages in the Sent folder prior to August 25th. I did several tests tonight and whenever I delete the bcc message from my inbox the message in the Sent folder is also deleted. I am using gmail as my IMAP incoming and outgoing mail servers. Everything is working perfectly except for this Sent folder issue.

I have another mail account with AT&T (att.net) that I also use in Thunderbird. I do not have this problem with the att.net mail account. When I delete the bcc message from the "AT&T" inbox the sent message remains and is not deleted.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks very much, Bill

Gmail does funny things with Bcc, and "copies to self" in particular. Copies to self are usually suppressed, I think because, they argue, you have a copy in your Sent collection. And it likes to remove the list of Bcc'd addressees from the copy in Sent. I suspect that this is due to gmail's system of holding one copy and applying multiple labels to it. So if you do successfully delete the message, all instances of it will dissappear.

Try setting your Sent folder to a location on your local disk, under Local Folders, rather than in the gmail account's Sent folder.
