Firefox 45 ESR repeatedly crashes

I'm stuck on an older version of MAC OSX. Not my choice. 10.6.6

I had not upgraded Firefox for some time (version thirty-something), but recently checked the "automatic update" box. I suddenly found myself updated to FF 49 even though that isn't supported on my version. It crashed constantly. After some research I downgraded to 45 ESR, now 45.5.1, but I'm still having multiple crashes daily. 8 so far this AM. Firefox has become absolutely unusable for us.

How do I downgrade further to a stable version?

Regardless of versions, FF seams to "leak" on OSX, and after opening and closing enough windows I have to exit and restart in order to free up memory or performance grinds to a halt.Even that is more frequent under 45 than it was before.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to Submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

Copy the last 5-7 Recent File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box below.

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

BTW, I followed the link to upgrade Flash, and it too offered a version not supported on my platform.

I call for more help. I don't know macs too well,

As to your flash, did you try both links I posted?

I don't think that "we" have anyone around here who is familiar with MacOSX issues, especially during an evening that leads into a weekend.

Looks like an extreme issue with Video and Audio drivers being involved in those crashes. Please see this support article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration#firefox:mac:fx45

First, check Hardware Acceleration to see if it is already disabled. If not, disable it and see if that helps.

yes, I tried both links for flash. None apply to my version of the OS.

Still having frequent crashes. here's some more crash reports:

Before I upgraded I might have encountered one crash a month. If there is no solution to this, is there a place I can download a version older than 45 ESR. This upgrade has left me with a virtually unusable browser.

What do you mean? Mac os is listed.

Note: Firefox ESR and flash were just updated.

Firefox: Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar. Then Help > About Firefox will tell you what version have and check for updates.

MAC OSX is listed for Flash 49 but it does not support 10.6. It requires 10.9 which I can't upgrade to.

I think you need to ask your question here: Adobe Support https://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer

There are also flash alternative players here; Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
