I am trying to get onto my library site which I have used for years. It is showing a padlock and saying the site is insecure. I would like to remove the padlock so I can access my account on this page. Can anyone help?

Hi   !
That's weird   -   tapping the Esc - key, like 'jscher2000' suggested, should work   ........   (?)

Would you try this : Type in the address bar   about:config   (press Enter) (promise to be careful, if asked  -   but you already know the drill) Type and look for the preference : security.insecure_password.ui.enabled and set it's value to   false
Does that make a difference   ?

Could you describe in more detail where the problem is. For example:

  • page will not load at all, there is an error page instead
  • page will load, but the login form is not functional

Possibly Relevant...

Firefox 52 provided a new warning on HTTP sites to remind you that your login is not protected from interception because there is no encryption on HTTP connections, your username and password are sent out over the network as plain text. See: Insecure connection password warning in Firefox.

The warning panel should appear below the user name and/or password field, but depending on the site's styling, it might block the field. In that case, you can clear it by tapping the Esc key.

If that doesn't work or is too inconvenient:

To Remove the Warning Panels

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste insec and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

(4) Assume this login could be easily stolen and avoid re-using it on important sites

Thank you for trying to help me. To be more specific, I can log onto the library website but can not get into my library account using my card number and password. On the same line as the library web address, there is padlock with a red slash mark through it....directly to the left of the web address. Every time that I put in my account info, a box appears and tells me that the site in insecure and I get the prompt to try again, which also does not work. I have tried your suggestions and I still can't get into my account. This has never happened before. Thank you for your time.

This message is meant as a warning and shouldn't prevent you from entering the website. Best is to get used to these warning messages and stay secure rather than hiding this message.

Firefox 51+ will mark HTTP connections with a padlock with a strike through and shows "Connection is Not Secure" if you click the Control Center 'i' button at the left end of the location/address bar.
