Why does opening a link using adobe create a new tab that replaces the one I was on?

My office runs a custom data application using Firefox. I have my settings opening pdfs in Adobe Acrobat. When I click on a pdf link from a screen in our application, Adobe opens in a new window to display the pdf (which is fine) but the tab/screen I had originally had open is now replaced with a blank "new tab." I swear this started just a few days ago. We used to be able to open pdfs in a new Adobe window and still see the screen we were working in. Help.

Not sure did it use a Adobe Plugin ? See if something here will help. : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox

Since using custom Adobe Software would not this be a Adobe issue ?
