Firefox and Hangouts?

So, what's the deal with Firefox and Google Hangouts? I'm using 52.2.0ESR and that still works, but the regular newest version of Firefox doesn't. I've been told that fixes are being made to the regular Firefox to handle it. As it turns out, it takes about twice as long to start ringing with Firefox on Hangouts as it does with Chrome. Sometimes the other party picks up even before I get connected. When will Firefox work with Hangouts seamlessly?

It's the other way around: Google is working on a new version of Hangouts that can run in Firefox without the Google Talk plugins. As far as I know, it isn't ready yet so you need to stick with the Extended Support Release for now.

This is Google's previous announcement: https://support.google.com/hangouts/answer/7334146 If you know of anything new, please share.

Thank you. That's very clear. It would be nice to know what timescale we're looking at, but I guess Google has no strong incentive to enable Hangouts on Firefox.

Why can't the Google Talk plugins be made to work with Firefox's new extension system? Is there some way to check on Google's progress with getting Hangouts to work in Firefox or nudge them to hurry up?

Re: Hangouts video and phone calls in Firefox - Hangouts Help I sent feedback to Google on 9th December,

"This help page appears (but should not) when there's a video error with Firefox 56.0.2 and Waterfox 56.0, both of which are WebRTC-compatible. …"

Please retry Hangouts without Google's plug-in.
