If I click on never save for login credentials it puts the proper exception in the exception list for "Remember logins for sites." But when I exit and re-enter firefox, the exception list is empty. Same thing happens if I manually add a site to the exceptions list.

Used to work fine and stopped working after one of the non-stop upgrades some time ago.

I am using 54.0

I think it is solved because of the clue provided by cor-el. Thanks. First I looked at Refresh Firefox and that was definitely not what I wanted. But I then removed the permissions.sqlite file from the profile. I started firefox and saved an exception. I created a new permissions.sqlite file and the exception was still there after I exited and reentered.

Thanks.

I should have added: I don't believe my privacy settings are telling Firefox to clear the exception list. In particular: Clear History when Firefox closes is not checked.

Hi   !

Unfortunately that link doesn't work, so we can't see whether 'Always use private browsing mode' is unchecked as well (it should be unchecked).

Could you provide us with a list of your installed add-ons (if you have any installed, that is)  ?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Do you have any external cleanup software that might cleanup the permissions.sqlite file?

To Happy112 and Cor-el: Thank you. I have endeavored to answer your questions:

1) Always use private browsing is unchecked. (I rarely use private browsing.) 2) Add ons: a) The only add on I use that seemed likely to be related is Saved Password Editor, but I had already tested that. I did run safe mode per your request and same thing happened. Ad ons: Adblock plus adobe Acrobat DC - Create PDF (though I had just turned that on so it could not be the problem) CM Send Link Disconnect Greasemoney Hide Tab Bar with One Tab Tab Mix Plus I have a couple of disabled (Minimxe to tray and xmarks), but I assume those are irrelevant anyway.

3) I have no external cleanup software

4) You mention the permissions.sqlite file. I took a look and it was last edited in January 2016. If that is, as you suggest, where exceptions are stored, the last edit date seems very odd.

5) I just tested by creating a new profile. Works fine with the new profile.

6) Is there a reason I should not try "Refresh Firefox." I have never used before. Might it fix the problem without destroying my settings/bookmarks/saved logins etc?
