i was not using my sync account on a pc for more than 4 months as i was using it on my phone and everything was working fine. Yesterday i bought a new phone and installed firefox and put in my info for syncing the account. I noticed that no information has been synced like its a new account and all bookmarks, addons, logins are gone. is there a way mozilla can fetch the old data some how?

Only one data set is saved on the Sync server, with no backups.

As far as user reported issues with Sync and data loss; the Firefox Account Password is used to create 2 "keys" for Sync services. One for login to the Sync server and the other "key" is used to encrypt the data as it flow to and from the server. Change the Firefox Account Password and the data that is on the Sync server becomes useless - it can't be decrypted by Firefox. Therefore the data is deleted, to allow the account to continue being used with a fresh load on data from a "connected device".

A Sync account at has gone 4 months without being used isn't good. Sync was never intended to be used as "cloud storage", but rather to be used continuously.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-sync-my-computer#w_connect-additional-devices-to-sync_

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance

"If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions..."

But what if your data, aka bookmarks (that you want to use) are on your desktop version of Firefox?

Why can't I import those to my phone? Everything's logged in correctly and Sync says it's connected on both desktop and mobile browser. Confirmation email buttons have been clicked from both sides.

But when I press Sync Now on my phone, and go and check to see if there's any bookmarks... it shows me a big grey star and the words, "Bookmarks you save show up here!"

Nothing. What the hell?
