How the heck do you work an email program without a menu?

Use alt or F10 to get a traditional menu, and in that, go to View|Toolbars and tick all the checkboxes.

The go look at how to customize Thunderbird and decide if you want to use this old fashioned menu bar, or the new one behind a three-bar button.

Where is the menu button - I have nothing on top right of my email screen other than the 'x' to close and two boxes to reduce/enlarge screen.
