Firefox 57 fails to finish loading progressive images
After "upgrading" to Firefox 57, mainstream websites such as bloomberg.com that use progressive image page content have become unusable. Briefly: the entire pages rapidly "load", but the series of images within each page never fully load/resolve. So the user (me) sees only a darkened cloudy/blurred version of the images. Reloading the pages is no help, nor is opening them in a new FF window. It is not bandwidth dependent., and clearing cache does not help. Pasting the http addresses into Edge browser allows normal viewing of images. I'm using Win10 64bit. Troubled by this and surprised I can find nothing about it. Thanks.

The author is very responsive to bug reports. He would be able to tell us all whether it's a WebExtensions issue and escalate a change through the best channels. Support volunteers don't have that inside knowledge.

Could you give a direct link to a page where you see this problem? Hopefully it's a public page that doesn't require a login.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).
"Clear the cache:
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
Thanks for helping structure the problem, which is now solved:
re jscher2000, example page with failed progressive image load is: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-06/what-on-earth-happened-to-stocks-here-s-where-to-cast-the-blame
(many images fail to load)
re cor-el proposed solutions: I was running FF57, clearing cache was no help, nor was reloading as suggested, but I was running as addons only ublock origin.
So...turning off ublock origin fixed the problem of non-loading of progressive images: immediate problem 'solved' (new problem created).
Now I'm going just rant, so all can 'hang up' with my genuine thanks: Sad how everything that used to just work in FF now requires troubleshooting, reinstall, or workaround: Java (there goes my VPN login process), Session Manager (gone!), no ublock (above image problem), etc
Mozilla should moreover consider that constantly changing the interface, appearances, and menu/button locations is totally destructive for productivity. If FF were a grocery store, I would stop shopping there---because who wants to hunt and peck for what they need when the 'store' is being remodeled every month or so.
Best, C
