Re: Version 60 and 'addons' https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.0/releasenotes/

IMPORTANT: Add-ons not marked as compatible with Thunderbird 60 by their authors will be disabled (this can be reverted via preference extensions.strictCompatibility)

  • 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > Advanced' > 'General' tab
  • click on 'Config Editor' button

it will say be careful :)

  • In top search type s.strict to locate 'extensions.strictCompatibility'
  • double click on line to toggle True to False.
  • close window
  • click on OK
  • Restart Thunderbird.

OR uninstall program via 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features' select Thunderbird and click on uninstall.

download verstion 52.9.1 here:

If Windows OS click on 'win32' select language preference eg: en-GB = English British Then download the 'Thunderbird Setup 52.9.1.exe' file. Double click to open and run.

Please note that not all authors of addons have decided to maintain their addon extensions. Some addons may continue to function, others may not. Those that have updated their addons to work in version 60 should be working already.

can version 60.0 in thunderbird be installed over 52.9.1 and can i still get the addons i want

mdm54 If you are currently using version 52.9.1, then there is no auto update as yet. If you really want to use version 60 then follow the instructions I've already mentioned to uninstall current version and then download version 60 and install it.

re :can i still get the addons i want I have no idea what addons you use :)

All addon information has already been discussed, so please read all previous comments made in this forum question. I will post the following comment again. IMPORTANT: Add-ons not marked as compatible with Thunderbird 60 by their authors will be disabled (this can be reverted via preference extensions.strictCompatibility) - info on this already mentioned in previous comments.

I tried extensions.strictCompatibility as recommended by Toad-Hall above but it did not restore the LookOut addon, which is the one I need so I can receive emails with attachments so they don't show up as .dat files that I can't use. Any replacement for LookOut or another way around this issue?
