Two computers running latest Thunderbird (60). One is displaying correctly the HTML part (outlook invitation) and the exact same version of TB running on another computer is not opening the exact same email (stored on IMAP server) . Just displaying the text part..??

(of course I played with View / Message Body as...)

I found that it has to do with Lightning extension. The problematic emails are "Outlook" invitation. When Ligthning is disabled, the HTML part is simply ignored. When Lightning is enabled, the HTML part is displayed and there is a header : This message contains an invitation to an event" Accept / tentative / decline.

actually what is ignored it the attachment. Without lightning to offer up "smarts" as to what to do with it, it becomes just another attachment like a DOC or PDF

Ok but the attachement should'nt be ignored. It should be displayed as... an "unknown" attachement.

Because it may content valuable information not repeated in the text. (That was actually the case for one user).
