I tried to create a new user profile to solve the Ugh! Firefox has crashed problem. Now my Firefox application support file has disappeared! And I appear to have lost all my bookmarks. I tried to restore from Time machine. Didn't work.

As a Windows person, I find it hard to interpret Mac crash reports. And since the "signature" was different in each of the reports I looked at, it's difficult to find the common thread.

If this occurs often, could you try these two tests (separately):

(1) Disable all plugins by setting them to "never Activate"

Either:

  • Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Plugins.

Then you can disable-by-default on the right side.

Any improvement?

(2) Try Firefox's Safe Mode

In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, JavaScript compilers, userChrome.css/userContent.css, and some other features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the option/alt key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Thanks - I did what you suggest. Firefox still crashes, but a lot less. I'm OK with this for now. Thanks!

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.
