I have a large bookmarks with many folders after many years of Firefox. About 4 months ago I noticed I could no longer add/delete or modify any amazon.com bookmarks in my amazon folder. All other websites seem to work ok. Click on the star, doesn't open anything. Click add to bookmarks, nothing happens. Right click on amazon bookmark in folder, properties, doesn't list the properties properly and doesn't allow me to delete. I have just checked my mozilla firefox profile folder and there is 3 x places.sqlite files - places.sqlite, places.sqlite-shm, places.sqlite-wal. I haven't deleted or modified them because I would like to identify the problem. I have tried clearing data, refresh firefox and restart with add ons disabled but nothing. I am running Kaspersky Total Security but have disabled anti virus and firewall, no change. Don't know if it started when pocket was introduced. Don't want to leave firefox, have had it for many years but this problem with bookmarks is frustrating. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Gekose oplossing

It looks like a problem with the places.sqlite file. places.sqlite : History and Bookmarks.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

A new places.sqlite file will be created using a backup file. Note: Only the bookmarks are backed up.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite (bookmarks and history) and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry

See also:

If "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
