Why does my 'Sent' folder contain two of every reply made.

After a computer crash I re-installed Windows. I also created a new 'identity' for my Outlook (Hotmail) account. When I reply to any email I am now seeing two 'replies' in the Sent folder I do not fully understand if I have done something to cause the problem (Re-installing Thunderbird) but would appreciate any comments. And is there a way I can delete second copies of sent mail to save space?

Right click your account in the folder pane and select settings.

In copies and folders for the account change the actions for sending messages by removing the tick in place a copy in.

What is happening is hotmail and Thunderbird are both saving a copy of what is sent.
