I have a clean install of windows 10 Home. When I try to install Firefox the screen flickers, I get a blank black screen and then windows crashes. After the attempted install of firefox (71.0) windows 10 Home will not boot. I get a black screen. I have to re-image windows using imaging software. I have tried this numerous times.

Have you looked in EventVwr.msc for some logs that give concrete details. Wonder if Firefox is the only program using your video card and it is actually a video card problem or not enough power to the video card.

I can't look in event viewer because I can't boot windows.

Do you have an emergency Windows boot disk? It might be with the install disks.

Bummer,

have you updated windows beforehand? Rebooted? And checked for updates again? Especially check for video driver updates. Then attempt the install of firefox. This does not sound like a firefox issue as much as a hardware issue. Or the computer came with an infection.

Check for bad RAM using the Windows builtin utility or memtest on the SysRescCD.org versions from 2018.

It may also be a power supply issue.

gsmartcontrol is a free opensource tool to check on the condition of the harddrive. May want to have it run an extended test to see if your harddrive is healthy.
