Can I follow the instructions at this link, putting the 2.0.0.24 files into the current version?

I would say go for it. You might have to play around selecting the profile again after you copy it. See https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2019/09/i-lost-my-profilemail-on-update-to.html

Some issues I would expect might appear are a loss of saved passwords, and there "might" be calendar issues. But as sunbird was the calendar for V2 that should not affect you much.

Changes you should be aware of;

Most of your existing addons will not make the cut. Servers using older version of SSL/TLS will not be available in Thunderbird. Currently all versions of SSL are out and the next point release will see TLS 1.0 and 1.1 dropped. Themes are not really a thing in the Current version. Complete themes ended with the release of V68.

Thanks very much for your reply. Gmail accounts use SSL by default in TBird 2.xxx - I'm assuming I can still add these accounts to the current version? I hope?

You can not only use them and add them, but you can use the oAuth authentication that allow you to no longer have the less secure apps setting turned on. For new accounts, this will be the automatic password choice, for existing accounts you can change it or not at your discretion.

That sounds great - Google has been pestering me about that! Also everyone on gmail gets a warning about emails sent from 2.xxx, and some go to spam.

Transfer question: when I paste the Thunderbird folder into AppData/Roaming, should I overwrite the existing Thunderbird folder?

Thanks!

Yes, but ensure Thunderbird is not running when you do it.

Thanks Matt - I should have watched the video! :-)

All transferred and seems fine... passwords lost but easily restored. Unless something turns up, that transfer was pretty painless.

Thanks for your help!!!
