Where is the option to automatically open links in new tab?

more options

The contextual menu that is supposed to give the option to open link in new tab does not work with image links. I want Firefox to auto open links in new tab on android. Where is that option?

It's been over half an hour and got no response.

Hi

Apologies for the delay in responding. The majority of the people helping users are volunteer contributors doing their best to help.

I have a look at this and cannot force Firefox for Android to do this for links. What you can do is long press on a link to see the option to open the link in a new tab.

If you can share the site that is causing you a problem, happy to look into this further for you.

I have tried long pressing on an image-link. It only selects the image which in turn shows the options for image viewing. A link is not always typed on a website. For example, when one clicks on a video on youtube it will take you to the link of that selected video.

Hi

Do you have an example of an image link that is not working for you that I could try here?

more options

You can find them on youtube or any image/video site.

Hi

I have opened a YouTube page and when I long press on a link, I have the option to open it in a new tab.

It didn't use to work for me but now it is. Can you see if you can open link in new tab with this link? marvel.com/insider/activities ?

more options

Hi

Yes, I can open that link as a new tab in Firefox for Android.

more options

Sorry, I should have been specific. Try any image links on that page.

more options

Yes, I can open links from that page in new a new tab.

The image links down the page does not give the option to open link in new tab when long tapped.

more options

Hi

Which is the link that is not opening for you?

more options

The option to open link in new tab does not show up when I long tap. Instead it shows image related options. All of the images do not give the option even though it opens a new page within the same tab.

more options

Do you have an example of a particular link/image on the page where this is happening?

I have had a look myself and cannot see any elements on the page that are not behaving as expected.

It seems obviously that you do not want to look since there are plenty of examples on that page. Images that if you single left click on it will take you to another page. Firefox on android does not give the option to open in a new tab since it is an image. Chrome does it but the version of firefox I am using does not.

Hi

I am sorry, but when I open the page in Firefox for Android, and also in Firefox on the desktop and the new Firefox Preview, the page seems to be behaving as I would expect and identically on all three versions.

more options

As I mentioned earlier, the page behaves smoothly. It is the app or the settings of the app that doesn't give the option to do what Firefox does in a pc or mac program.

Firefox for Android is designed for mobile devices and will do things a little differently to Firefox on the desktop.

I am glad to hear the page is working correctly for you, thank you for letting us know.

I don't want to sound rude but your quick reply does not answer my original question. Is there anyone else here that can assist me?

That page has:

"Rack up the Points"

  • 6 round images => long-press gives the image context menu
  • Earth's mightiest show image => long-press gives the image context menu

"Featured Activities" / "Featured Rewards"

  • 4 large images => long-press gives the image context menu

Near the bottom

  • Marvel insider => long-press gives the Link | Image context menu
  • Marvel Mastercard => long-press gives the Link | Image context menu

Inspecting the HTML on desktop shows what you would expect. The images that do not generate a link context menu aren't hyperlinks, they are scripted elements.
