After the recent upgrade I now have a large grey panel below my email when viewing. I have been unable to get rid of it. I disabled my extensions. Any ideas on how to remove this?

If it looks OK in safe mode, then it's probably due to a broken layout, an incompatible add-on, or incorrect hardware acceleration (in Options/General, at the bottom). Try a different hardware acceleration setting, and if that doesn't help, launch in safe mode, check 'Reset toolbars & controls', 'Make changes & restart'. If the problem remains, look for an incompatible extension or theme.

Does it appear in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB)?

Thank you for replying. No, in safe mode it looks fine.

Also I just noticed I have the same grey box instead of the preview box below my emails in my inbox. I am using Classic View layout. That area used to show a preview of the email when it was selected in the list above it. It is the adjustable preview panel.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately nothing has worked.

Safe Mode > Reset Toolbars & Controls > Make Changes and Restart No change.

I have no extensions installed. There is a theme, but it looks like the theme I use for Firefox. I do not see any option to uninstall it.

Can I reinstall Thunderbird? I would like to backup my content before doing so.

Reinstalling won't hurt, but it probably won't help. But a new profile might, and it doesn't affect your current profile. Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles, create a new profile, add an account, and see if the problem remains. If it looks OK, reply here for how to transfer data from the old profile to the new.

Yes that worked. I greatly appreciate the time you took to help me through this. I never could have done this on my own. Thank you so much.

What is the easiest way to transfer the emails from the old broken profile to the new. I have set up all my accounts. I just want to move all the emails over. Thank you.

more options

Look in the old profile folder, in the account subfolders of Mail (POP accounts) or ImapMail (IMAP accounts), and Mail/Local Folders, for the mbox files, the large files with no extension, named after folders. Copy the mbox files to Mail/Local Folders in the new profile, while TB is closed. Restart TB and find the folders under Local Folders in the Folder Pane.

Thank you so much. Most of them migrated, but I cannot seem to get my gmail address Inbox emails over to the new profile. I have copied everything in both the Mail folder and ImapMail folder. Where else can they be?

more options

If the gmail account is IMAP, it will download the Inbox in the new profile at the first connection. If it's POP, copying the Inbox mbox file to Mail/Local Folders should restore the messages. There may be more than one subfolder of Mail, e.g. Mail/pop.gmail.com and Mail/pop-1.gmail.com.

more options

There were more than one folder like you say. I moved all of the folders but it did not move the Inbox gmail emails. I don't want it to download emails from my gmail because those emails are no longer in the gmail so it won't get them there anyway. I'll keep trying. Thank you for all your help
