Thunderbird updated when my computer turned off and now it flickers nonstop and is entirely unusable. This goes away when in safe mode, but I can't imagine I am expected to open it in safe mode all the time. I have already opened it in safe mode and clicked to disable all extensions and add-ons and clicked to make this a permanent change. This did not solve the problem. I cannot open it in non-safe mode to check and see if my extensions and add-ons are truly removed because the flickering makes this impossible. My Thunderbird is version 78.4.3. Unfortunately I have to use Thunderbird for work so I need to figure out a solution to this problem.

Try to turn off hardware acceleration.

Tools > options > type in "accel" > uncheck "enable hardware acceleration > restart thunderbird
