What is the most recent version of Firefox for Android on Google Play Store?

more options

Hello everyone!

I have been stuck on Firefox version 82.1.3 on Android since 2020-11-09. Firefox 83 was released some time ago and Firefox 84 got released a couple of days ago. No matter how many restarts or refreshes I do of Google Play, the most current version shown is 82.1.3.

- Does anyone know what's going on? Is this as it should be? - If this is as it should be, why does Mozilla keep announcing new versions without informing the users that version releases on Android are lagging?

Thanks!

Maybe the versions that are released already don't have support for your device. On which version of Android are you?

Thank you for the reply.

I've got multiple devices. On the first device it's Android 8, and on the second it's Android 10.

On both devices, the latest Firefox version available is 82.1.3.

I can confirm it. This is one of the reasons, why it's better to use the nightly version. It's being updated every night.

I suspect that they don't have a full control of the release process in Google Play.

On Github there's already 84 -> https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/releases/tag/v84.1.1

Thank you for the reply!

Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Has there ever been a public statement regarding this behavior considering the security/privacy implications of not being on the latest version that is actually available?

AFAIK, no. I can only recall something about "staged rollout" and that the package is analysed by Google before the release, but a month is still too long for me.

I agree that a month is too long!

Thank you.

Hi there!

I am now able to install the most recent Firefox for Android on both of my devices via Google Play. Any explanation of what happened that you can share with us?

Kind regards

Edit: Thank you for reaching out to the developers :-)
