"Other bookmarks" folder appeared in Bookmark Toolbar Items and I can't get rid of it

Yesterday "Other bookmarks" folder appeared into my Bookmark Toolbar, I don't know how. It looks like it's inside Bookmark Toolbar Items because if I customize the Firefox interface and I remove the Bookmark Toolbar Items, the Other bookmarks folder disappears as well.

Do you have any idea how it happened (to prevent it to happen again), and how to get rid of it without losing all bookmarks? I can't drag it, and if I right click on it, the items "Cut", "Delete", and "Properties" on the context menu are greyed out.

Attached screenshots are in Italian, but they are quite self-explanatory about the issue.

I've found another solution that removes the issue completely, by the way:

go to about:config

Set these keys to False: app.normandy.startupRolloutPrefs.browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020

Hi

If you move the bookmarks out of that folder into other bookmark folders, the "Other bookmarks" folder should disappear from the toolbar.

I've moved all bookmarks out of the Other bookmarks folder and it disappeared out of my Bookmark Toolbar. I assume this is a recently introduced feature, as I've noticed there are other people complaining about it today. I don't know how useful it is, however it's easy to fix. Thank you @Seburo .

See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1664053#c12 and the Bookmarks Toolbar article, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/bookmarks-toolbar-display-favorite-websites#firefox:win10:fx85 under the following section: Remove the Other Bookmarks button from the Bookmarks toolbar (quote) Starting in Firefox version 85, an Other Bookmarks button appears at the end of the Bookmarks toolbar, if the Other Bookmarks folder in your Library contains any bookmarks. If you don't want to see that button:

  1. Right-click on a blank spot on the Bookmarks toolbar (or on the Other Bookmarks button itself) to open the context menu.
    Fx85BetaBookmarksToolbarContextMenu
  2. Click on the Show Other Bookmarks menu item to remove the check mark.

Tip: You can also access the Always Show, Never Show and Only Show on New Tab settings for the Bookmarks Toolbar from the context menu.

P.S. The "Other Bookmarks" folder may appear in the Firefox 84 Bookmarks Toolbar but the fix to remove it via the context menu wasn't added until Firefox 85. Bug 1674539 comment 17 mentions that the related preference [*] is only enabled in Firefox version 84 for testing purposes: (quote) Gijs (he/him)Comment 17 • 2020-11-20 07:32 EST (In reply to Tom Schuster [:evilpie] from comment #16)

Is the plan to ship the "Other bookmarks" button in 84? In that case I think it would be good to uplift this patch.

We'll be running an experiment on release, so it won't be enabled everywhere (see the pref).

Note that you are likely part of a study that has set browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 = true as an experiment.

There is a similar experiment running for the modal print window:

Show Other Bookmarks menu item is not present in my installed version of Firefox.

I wrote in my earlier reply that the fix to remove "Other Bookmarks" using the Bookmarks Toolbar context menu wasn't added until Firefox 85. Your solution for Firefox 84 is to set the *browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 preferences to "false".
