I cannot replicate the issue, everything opens for me. see screenshot

Have you tried in safe mode? Firefox safe mode: Click the menu button, click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled…. Firefox will start up with the Firefox Safe Mode dialog.

Can you try downloading a separate copy of Firefox to a folder and run it from there to compare? I've stop using my distro version months ago because I kept losing tabs.

Restarting in safe mode (actually, troubleshoot mode in my version, menu button-> Help->Troubleshoot Mode) doesn't solve it, downloading into a dedicated folder does. Both versions are 90.0.2 64 bit ubuntu, I blv the nonworking version was preinstalled in my stock version of ubuntu 20.04 ; this version runs from /usr/bin/firefox
