Thunderbird on Ubuntu leaves Open Windows after writing and sending an email
Thunderbird on Ubuntu leaves Open Windows after writing and sending an email.
Thunderbird is closed. On the Dock there are 4 orange points that indicate 4 open windows (from the 4 emails I sent). When I open the Applications Menu from the bottom left corner, Thunderbird shows only one orange dot. If I click on it, it doesn't open a new stance. If I do a right-click, the drag-and-drop menu works and shows the name of all the 4 windows that are "open". If I click on them, nothing happens. If I try to open a new stance from the Dock, nothing happens. Same if click on Thunderbird's icon in the App Menu, but if I right click and press "new window", then it will open a New Stance without any problems, and without adding a new dot to the "open stances" on the dock.
Using "killall thunderbird" on terminal doesn't work.

have you checked your repo for updates?
I have had this problem for months. I had it on Ubuntu 20.04, 21.04, and now on 21.10. I always keep everything updated. The only way I can get Thunderbird to work is to reboot my machine. It doesn't always have the issue. I cannot find a pattern. I finally have reached the point of frustration that I am ready to switch to another email client if I don't find an answer soon.
My system: TBird: 91.5.0; Ubuntu: 21.10; Gnome: 40.4.0
I have the same dot problem. Earlier today I had seven (7!!!!) orange dots showing emails I had sent. No corresponding overlays, though. A right click on the TBird icon freezes TBird, necessitating a full reboot.
A, maybe, related problem is that if I am moving emails to locations I want them, after a while TBird freezes and a reboot is the only cure. Also, I had problems with the message filter in that before it wouldn't open any drop down menus. Now they open, but if I run my cursor over it, it selects the first one I cursor and I can't select any others.
I have reported these problems on Bugzilla and Ubuntu Forums but no answers yet.
Any ideas?
